Trouble Upgrading to Vista

I'm at the end of my rope here and debating on whether or not

vista compatability
At about 68% of completion phase, I get an error message saying the install failed and that I should run the Upgrade Advisor in order to determine the cause. The Upgrade Advisor certifies that the system can run Vista and reccomends the Business Edition. Any ideas? Thanks, in advance.

Why It is Acceptable to Criticise Vista
In addition I copied my harddisc to an external drive so I would have been able to just copy it back in case XP-recovery failed. My Vista was started virtually via deamon tools and the vista upgrade advisor told me everything was good to go (and my hp computer has a sticker which reads "Vista Upgradable").
